Help, Draft Horse Diarrhea!

"I have a 20 hand, 10 yr old Percheron /TB gelding. I bought him about 3 years ago and he has always been on grass hay with purina horse chow 100. All my horses were on this menu, and I didn't change it at all. Then just last winter 3 out of 5 of my horses all got diarrhea on and off for about 3 months. But my gelding was the only one whose condition didn't clear up. He had a solid stool but with running, stinky leakage with gas.

The vet said it had to be a feed change, well that wasn't what was happening. I called around to feed stores and to horse friends and web-sites to see if anyone could help. Finally a feed store in Santa Rosa, Dave's Hay Barn, highly recommended your Micro Minerals, so I gave it a shot.

A "Mini" Miracle

Dear Micro Minerals,

Our AMHA Mini, Arwen, suffered a rare and serious reaction to a regular 4-way vaccine that we gave her this past April as part of her regular Springtime vaccinations. The day after the shot, she began to have bouts of diarrhea, which became increasingly worse as each day passed. Her appetite also dwindled down to where she would consume no food at all of any kind, no matter what we tried to give her. She was miserable, bloated and unwell. She lost so much weight that when the outside temperature dropped one night, we found her shivering in her stall. Unable to locate a miniature blanket from any of the local tack stores, we simply took her into our living room and put our own blankets on her! She stood there in our "human" stall shaking and sick, but never once wavered in her trust of us.

By now we were frantic. Our vet could find nothing wrong in her blood work, she had no fever, no increased pulse, no decreased gut sounds and for all intensive purposes was a very healthy little horse, except for the fact that she was starving herself to death. My husband and I kept her alive by force-feeding her syringes of soaked horse feed, yogurt, electrolytes, and anything we could think of. We turned off her water to monitor her consumption, put electrolytes in her water (in addition to the paste) and prayed for a miracle.

That miracle finally came when by chance our vet referred us to one of our local feed stores to get some alfalfa/molasses mixture to try to coax her to eat a bit. The manager of the feed store, (Jama of Diamond D Feeds, Ramona, CA.) suggested Micro Minerals. Having nothing left to loose except our precious horse, we purchased a 5-gallon bucket and immediately went home and made a paste of Micro Minerals, yogurt, and electrolytes. We fed her three huge syringes full of the mixture, and within 2 hours our little one was nibbling at some alfalfa! It was the first glimmer of hope we had in weeks!

Arwen steadily ate more and more, and today she licks up her Micro Minerals right along with the rest of her supplements and feed. She runs, bucks, whinnies and acts out exactly like she did prior to becoming so ill. We are absolutely thrilled!!

Our other two horses, Avalon & Archie, also love your product, and greedily lick their feeders clean each evening. We cannot begin to thank you enough for making such a remarkable product. The fact that our horse was not eating for weeks, and within a short 2 hours of receiving your product began nibbling on food was enough to convince us that we don't ever want to stop using your product!
